About Lynn Schilaty

Lynn Schilaty is running for city council because her ties and commitment to Snohomish run deep. It is important to her to give back to our community through public service. Her husband of 21 years, Alex de Soto, and she were born and raised in Snohomish and are both 1981 Snohomish High grads. After college, law school and living and working in Seattle and London, England they chose to move back to the wonderful community of Snohomish in 1994 to raise a family. Their three children, Emma, Ethan and Eli, attend Central/Emerson Elementary.

Alex, Lynn, Eli (6), Emma (11), and Ethan (7)

Because she is deeply committed to her community, Lynn volunteers in the Snohomish School District, is an active member in the youth program at First Presbyterian Church of Snohomish, a member of the Snohomish Garden Club since 1994, a member of the Jayme Oliver Children’s Hospital Guild, and an Island County Shore Steward. She has worked as a volunteer at the Snohomish Education Foundation annual auctions. She also went to Samoa in 2002 with Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity (VOSH) to help set up temporary eye clinics to provide eye exams and glasses for the people of Samoa. Lynn’s former garden was on the Snohomish Garden Club’s 1999 garden tour and her current home was on the Snohomish Historical Society’s 2006 home tour. Lynn currently works from home caring for her children and doing volunteer work.  Other relevant work experience includes working for a mid-size law firm and the Seattle City Attorney's Office Land Use Department during law school, and, after law school, working for a Big Four accounting firm in London, England as a US tax staff accountant.

In a time when people are tiring of partisan politics, we can be thankful that our city council positions are non-partisan.  Lynn will work to represent all citizens, not any one political party.  The issues that face the City of Snohomish require us to work together to move our city forward.  For example, fixing an aging water and sewer system; making it safe for pedestrians to cross a street; developing residential and commercial property to provide a local setting for people to live, work, and play; and keeping our lakes, streams and rivers clean are all non-partisan issues that require solutions formed through using dialogue, common sense and collaboration.

It is the city government's responsibility to wisely manage taxpayers' money, encourage smart economic growth, provide safe streets and sidewalks, and to be a faithful steward of our natural and historic environments.

As your city council representative, Lynn will effectively carry out these responsibilities.  She will balance our need to improve the vitality of our entire city while maintaining our natural and historic assets.  What is needed in Snohomish is common sense solutions applied by city council members who are willing to meet with people who represent all sides of an issue.  Lynn's ties to this community give her access to many  viewpoints. She will weigh these viewpoints carefully. Also, her legal education and her work and life experiences provide her with the skills to work collaboratively and effectively.  She will bring a positive and balanced perspective to our city council.
